National Opal Apples Day!

Apples are a fruit that is just good any time of the day or year. The first bite is so juicy and every type of apple has a different taste to it. A different experience and a different memory behind it. The Opal Apple has a sweet and floral taste to it. It is one of my favorite apples. I wasn’t sure which category to put this blog post in as it is a National Day post AND a recipe. As I have mentioned before Cobbler is one of my favorite things to make. My all time Fall favorite is apple cobbler but with this recipe this could be perfect for any season. Apple Cobbler is very simple to make and yes! There is an allergy friendly recipe to this one too. If you love butter you will love this recipe.

APPLE COBBLER

6 Opal apples (or any apple of your choosing)

1 stick butter

2 tbls of cinnamon

2 tsp nutmeg

(add lavender instead if you want to stick with that floral taste)

2 cups milk

2 cups sugar

2 cups all purpose flour

Pre-heat oven to 375. Wash and peel apples. Slice them into the desired thickness. Put stick of butter in a large skillet and melt. Pour apples in, put the lid on, and let simmer on low until tender but not squishy. Pour seasonings on the apples and mix. Let simmer for 5 more minutes.

In a separate bowl, mix together milk, sugar, and flour. Put apple mixture in a 9X13 glass pan. Pour crust mixture on top evenly.

(Top with brown sugar and cinnamon, trust me it makes it crunchy and amazing)

Cook for 25-30 minutes. Test with fork. Will be ready when the fork can be inserted in the crust and comes out clean.

Enjoy with a local favorite, Pizzicletta Gelato.
